Rare US lawyer's trade sign c. 1890
A very rare double-sided American metal trade sign dating to around 1890. The sign is rather fabulously untouched on its original fixing which would have hung outside the law offices of Houghton & Marshall in the town of Shoals, Indiana. The lawyers in this case, were James B. Marshall and Hilary Houghton, both listed in the business directory & gazetteer for Shoals in 1890.
The signs is hugely evocative of the signs often see in Westerns, swinging outside wooden buildings in a dusty cowboy town.
Shoals may not have been the wild west, but this sign is the real deal, pard’ner! Yee haw!
