Large Scottish Silver Bowl Traprain Law
A large Scottish Silver Bowl by Brook & Son, Edinburgh.
During excavations in 1919 an archaeological team discovered a hoard of Roman Silver at Traprain Law, near Edinburgh, believed to have been buried around the middle of the 5th Century AD. The hoard is on display at the National Museums of Scotland in Edinburgh.
Brook & Son of Edinburgh were the silversmiths used to restore the haul and subsequently they made copies under license.
The bowl is hallmarked on the underside of the base with the maker's name "Brook & Son, 87 George Street, Edinburgh", the Scottish thistle sterling silver mark, the castle Edinburgh town mark and date letter "A" for 1931/32.
Also stamped "Traprain Treasure 1919, Authorised Reproduction".
It is in good condition with light surface scratches.
