Large 20" Bisque Head Adolf Heller? German Doll
This lovely antique doll dates from approx. 1910-1920. She has a bisque head, wooden lower arms and ball-joints, composition upper arms, legs and hands, and a papier-mache composition body. Moulded into the back of her head is 'Made in Germany 1912 A 31/2 H', and she has an 'X' moulded in to the top of her forehead underneath the hairline. She has glass sleeping eyes that are in good working order, an open mouth with teeth, rosy cheeks and painted facial features. She retains what we believe to be her original mohair wig, which is attached with string at either side. She is wearing an antique white dress and underclothes, pink socks and white leather shoes, which are possibly original.
Condition Overall in good condition, with some playwear consistent with age and use. Her wig is partially unstuck and is dishevelled. She is overall grubby and would benefit from a careful clean. There are some grubby marks to her face, and some rubbing to the end of her nose. There are some small paint rubs to her head, but no cracks or chips. Her body and limbs are grubby and have some wear. The shoulder and hip ball joints are worn through the outer surface. There are some areas of crazing / flaking to the body, and some areas of paint loss. One of the fingers on the right hand has been glued back on. There is an area of damage to the bottom of the right-hand upper arm. The sole of the right foot is missing. The clothes are grubby with some foxing and wear, and the socks are dirty and misshapen. The shoes are quite brittle and are a little misshapen.
