Gorham silver (USA) card case, c1852-1865
Rare Gorham silver (USA) card case featuring a regular engine turned decoration that also has bright cut foliate borders and cartouche. The card case does not have any personal engraving.
The card case is clearly marked for Gorham on the inside edge of the hinged top. The marks of a lion, anchor and "G" date this piece to c1852-1865. The lip on the other side is stamped "20", but we do not know the significance of this mark.
For reference in dating this piece, we have used the following website/url
Gorham silver was founded in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1831 by Jabez Gorham in partnership with Henry L Webster.
The card case measures 6.3 cm (2.4") by 9 cm (3.5") by .8 cm (.3"). It weighs 62 grams.
All measurements are approximate.
The silver is in good overall condition. The lid hinge operates well, and the lid is a snug fit. There are a few minor dings to the top and back surfaces, and a few more significant dents to the edges. This is commensurate with age and use.
Please study all photos as these form an important part of the description.
Selling price includes free UK postage. For other countries, please contact us for a quote.
