George VI Silver Pickle Fork, Viner's Ltd, 1938
This is a charming little George VI Sterling Silver Pickle Fork or Cocktail Fork with a Mother of Pearl finial. The fork has three spreading tines and the finial is a tapered rectangle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The pickle fork was made in Sheffield by Viner's Ltd and dates to 1938. Viner's was founded around 1900 by Adolphe Viener, who later Anglicized his family surname to Viner. Starting out as electroplaters, the firm moved into silverware in the early 1920s. They remained extremely successful up until the 1970s but later had difficulties and ceased trading in the 1980s. The Viner's brand name is now owned by Oneida.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents in the silver, no damage to the Mother of Pearl and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pickle fork is 9cm / 3.5ins long and weighs 5.8g / 0.2oz.
The hallmarks, on the back of the fork, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter v for 1938 and the E V makers' mark for Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £4.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
