George III Silver Tankard
George III
Silver Tankard
Newcastle 1791
Maker's mark for John Langlands I & John Robertson I.
Approximate dimensions: height 13cm, eight 298.2 grams.
This tankard has seen a lot of use so there is a lot of minor denting to the body and and foot rim, also marks to the foot rim. The foot is very slightly wobbly. The handle has had a sometime repair to hold it firmly to the tankard's rim, please see photo. The repair is good and does not stand out. The handle also has small dents.
There are engraved initials to the thumbpiece of the handle which are quite rubbed. M is visible followed by a C and possibly a T.
Approximate dimensions: height 12.5cm, weight 296 grams.
It holds about 3/4 pint.
This tankard does show the results of heavy use over its long life but it carries the now quite rare Newcastle hallmark and is an example of a Georgian tankard from the late 1700s which would be a good addition to both a collection and also a usable item.
