A rare 17th Century Welsh Sycamore Bowl - Treen Welsh Stick Chair %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
An exceptional and very rare Welsh turned sycamore bowl. Most likely dating from the 17th Century or earlier, it shows signs of great age and is of a design dating back to the middle ages. This piece was purchased from a house in Cardiganshire. Superb original condition, free from damage and having wonderful surface.
The mark to the underside being that of the owner rather than the maker, who using a symbol rather then their initials suggests they were illiterate. Also the inclusion of a personalisation mark suggests it's use in an environment where there were many other bowls such as in a work place or on-board a ship, allowing the owner to clearly identify their personal bowl from which they would both eat and drink. A rare and special piece that would complement any treen collection.

Diameter 8" = 20cm Height 3" = 7cm
