2 x Vintage Silver Candlesticks, Birmingham, 1981
This is a smart pair of Vintage Sterling Silver Candlesticks. The candlesticks have circular bases with stepped line decoration, which are weighted for stability, bulbous stems topped with matching decoration and urn shaped sconces. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The candlesticks were made in Birmingham by Broadway & Co and date to 1981. Broadway & Co was founded by William Benjamin Broadway in Birmingham in 1901. The firm quickly established a reputation for good quality workmanship and produced a wide range of silverware for personal and domestic use. The company, now called Broadway Silversmiths, remains under the control of the Broadway family to this day and still uses many of the original dies and tools from the early years of the company.
Condition is very good, with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the bottom rims plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each candlestick is 10.5cm / 4.1ins high and 6.6cm / 2.6ins in diameter across the base. The pair together weigh in at 226g / 7.97oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the base.
The hallmarks, on the rims of the bases, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter G for 1981 and the B & Co makers' mark for Broadway & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the candlesticks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
