2 x Edwardian Silver Salts, C.T. Burrows, 1904/5
This is an elegant pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Open Salts in the Neo-Georgian style that was very popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. The salts are oval with flat bases, reeded bodies and curling handles. The insides were originally gilded but this is now somewhat rubbed. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The salts are made in Birmingham by C.T. Burrows & Sons, with one dating to 1904 and one to 1905. Founded by Charles Truman Burrows in the 1890s, the firm primarily produced silver tableware and remained in business into the early 1940s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the rubbing of the gilt interior as mentioned above, which has resulted in some salt marking to the insides. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each salt is 8.5cm / 3.3ins from handle to handle, 3.7cm / 1.4ins across and 4.1cm / 1.6ins high. The pair together weigh in at 54.8g / 1.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the outsides of the rims, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letters e for 1904 or f for 1905 and the C.T.B makers' mark for C.T. Burrows & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
