1906-08 20" Steiff Centre-Seam Apricot Teddy Bear
This lovely antique bear is a Steiff centre-seam bear, but please note that he is missing the button from his ear. Given this he is difficult to date accurately, but he is definitely pre-1910 and probably dates from 1906-1908. We believe him to originally have been pale apricot in colour, but we cannot be 100% sure of this. He has mohair fur with replacement felt pads (one foot pad at least appears to have the remains of his original felt pads underneath). He has a pronounced muzzle with a (faded) black stitched nose and mouth, and a pronouced hump on his back. He has black shoe button eyes that we believe to be original. He has four black claws stitched to his hands and feet. He is fully jointed, and is hard stuffed with what we believe to be wood shavings / straw.
Condition Overall in playworn condition. He has had some restoration / conservation work done at some point. His mohair fur is badly worn with significant loss and balding, worse to his front. His stuffing has moved in places and his joints are loose. We are unsure whether his nose and claw stitching is original - some or possibly all may have been replaced. His felt pads have been replaced at some point - the pad of one of his feet is loose at the back and the edge of another, possibly original, felt pad is visible underneath. He has some signs of re-stitching in places, including to his tummy and ears, and some wear and holing. He is threadbare in places. He is overall faded and a little grubby.
