17th Century Measuring Vessel 17th century oak tankard measuring vessel %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A fascinating and intriguing object.... at first glance this looks like a tankard for someone who really appreciated their
"hops"... but this was actually used as a measuring device or scoop two old holes which have been filled many moons ago suggest there was a cord that went through either side, the front of the vessel has been worn down... again suggesting what ever it was scooping grain etc etc... has left its mark over time, the tankard has been riveted and the loose base is later... again this piece has a wonderful old surface and patination.. it does look like leather but in actual fact its wood, given the age of this vessel... It does give off a very old leathery look about it. Possibly English/ or European 17th /18th century
