Welsh Oak Eisteddfod Chair


A fine, stout oak Eisteddfod chair of typical form, awarded as a prize at Ferndale in the Rhondda Valley in 1924. Makers label for the Pontypridd Furniture Co. Simple Arts and Crafts like design with a carved dragon motif to the centre. Almost identical Eisteddfod chairs were produced by the same maker for other competitions in the region in 1923 and 1924. Some of these examples feature in 'The Bardic Chair' by Richard Bebb and Sioned Williams (2009) p150-153.
