For sale a lovely mid twentieth century pair of heavy gauge 'Viners of Sheffield' silver plated toothpick holders with lion headed handle detailing. The words ‘IMP’ perhaps denoting ‘Imperial’ are inscribed under the lions . The pair of cups are fully marked to the base, see photos. These are well made items with great attention to detail with the feel of imperial grandeur and Britishness: the lion's head denoting great Britain. The handles mimic door knockers of grand houses, a very clever touch indeed. The cups have ornamental handles coupled with the patterned rim on the edge of the cup, see photos.

The cups are made by one of the most renowned silver and silver plate makers in Britain, Viners of Sheffied, who were established in 1908 and received the Royal Warrant to George V in 1930 and are still in business over 110 years later. The quality of craftsmanship and design is evident in every inch of the cups, hence these cups really live up to the Viners' name and reputation.

These are lovely items and are rarely found as a pair, they are real collector's items, and a piece of British history.

Condition report: there are some deep tarnish marks inside the bowl and the usual surface scratches and darkening consistent with their age and some copper bleeding showing through the surface of one of the toothpick holders (please view the attached photographs), but no big dents or big scratches, in fact they are in remarkably good condition for their age.
