Silver Art Deco Butterfly Wing Cavalier Pendant

Very unusual, this wonderful, tiny delicate piece of butterfly wing antique jewellery is set to sterling silver - measuring c. 3/4" inch long (2.3cm) it depicts the Laughing Cavalier after Frans Hals, reverse painted to the clear cover - a pretty pendant or bracelet charm. Often attributed to Thomas Mott, this is a fine example. This little beauty will not disappoint!.
Thomas Mott (TLM) exhibited his beautiful reversepainted butterfly wing jewellery at the British Empire Exhibition of 1924. His company was the largest producer of butterfly wing jewelry in the 1920"s/1930"s. Becoming a favourite accessory of the Art Deco period, these pieces are now becoming highly sought after and collected.
It was in 1922 that Shipton Co of England applied for the patent (202212 & 202213) for the design of using Butterfly Wings for the production of pictures, but it is generally Mott that is credited with their rise in popularity and also used the same patent numbers.
