Rare Straining or basting spoon. Circa 1860.
An unusual large straining or basting spoon. Silver plate c.1860.
I have only seen this design of straining spoon made from solid silver, and hallmarked for an assay office in Ireland. This is unusual in that it is made from silver plate and although there is not a makers identification, I suspect it too was made in the emerald isle.
On the handle is inscribed the initial "P", suggesting it is from a well to do household.
It is in very good condition, with only a little wear to the plate on the handle.
It is 12 inches or 30 centimeters long.
