Rare Large Doulton Lambeth Jardiniere - C. 1880's.
This is a wonderful and rare Doulton Lambeth Jardiniere beautifully decorated with 6 relief panels of animals. There are two types of dog, a cat, monkey, cockatoo and owl. The modeling of the animals is exceptional and though signed to the base ( U M??) I have not been able to identify the artist. The Jardiniere is further decorated with scrolls and flowers. The glaze runs from a deep blue, through turquoise to rich browns. The Jardiniere sits on a small stand, the Jardiniere is 16cm x 19cm wide at the top and the stand is 4cm x 13.5cm.
Condition.
The condition is good, though there are some minor faults. There is a chip to the stand 3cm x 1cm. There is a firing crack to the rim cm long and a second one lower and to the right of this. This does not affect the integrity to the jardiniere as it has a good ring to it. On the underside of one of the dogs there is a small patch of glaze missing. This does not appear to be damage and is a manufacturing defect.
