Edwardian 9ct Gold Fob Locket Necklace 1904
A wonderful fully hallmarked gold fob locket was assayed (tested for gold purity) at Birmingham Assay Office in 1904. The locket is ornamented with wreaths of forget-me-not flowers. Wreaths signify continuous life. Forget-me-not flowers convey deep love, fidelity and respect. Acanthus leaves have been incorporated into the designs on both exterior surfaces. Acanthus leaves symbolise everlasting life.
In the middle of this stunning fob is a locket compartment which is suitable for two portraits or even a lock of hair. The original clear portrait protector and solid gold frame are present.
The locket compartment lid is embellished with ivy leaves and forget-me-not flowers which form a continuous wreath around a shield cartouche which also resembles a heart shape. The shield motif conveys the desire to protect. Ivy leaves represent everlasting love, deep friendship and fidelity.
The hinge and catch work perfectly.
The original frame and glass portrait protector are present.
The 9 carat gold belcher chain necklace measures 18 inches long.
This wonderful antique is ideal for everyday wear as a pendant or as a watch accessory.
