Constance Spry for Fulham Pottery mantle vase. Unglazed exterior with glazed interior. Condition is good with no chips, although there are a few scuff marks on the exterior and some crazing to the interior glaze as one would expect.Size width 44cm, height 19cm.
Constance Spry was a celebrated female florist who came to prominence during the 1920's. She was the first floral designer to use twigs, vegetables and berries in her designs. During the 1930's she created a furore for her window display in Atkinson's Perfumery shop in Bond Street, which centred around red kale leaves. She was also responsible for the flowers at the wedding of Wallis Simpson to the Duke of Windsor. She published many books and opened a floristry school. In 2004 she was the subject of a show at the Design Museum in London.
