Unique Chinese moon flask with two hoops on either side and a hole through the base enabling a strap to be passed through and over the shoulder for ease of carrying. Early Qing, possibly Kangxi. Originally this would have been decorated simply in underglaze blue before being exported to Europe, where gilt and coloured enamels were added in European taste. The term 'clobbered' is very fitting for a moon flask which has been massively over decorated. And yet it still has a certain charm , with its unknown history behind it. Some underglaze blue is still visible, for example on two sides of the foot base where there is a type of cash design.
Condition good for age, although there is a small chip on one of the strap hoops and from one corner of the base.
