Antique Silver Plated Strawberry Set c.1900
A late Victorian Strawberry set, the two shell shaped dishes would be piled high with summer Strawberries and served with caster sugar in the bowl and fresh cream in the jug or creamer. My silversmith was able to find me a pair of period shell shaped spoons, one a sugar sprinkler and the other a cream ladle, perfect to finish of this grand set and by a top silversmith, Roberts and Belk.
When English Strawberries are out of season, I use these to serve cakes, biscuits, cookies and chocolates with the milk or cream in the jug and sugar for the tea or coffee, a really usable and stunning table top serving piece for any occasion.
The bases of the sugar and creamer are made to fit into the rings either side of the handle, and their interior's have been lavishly gilded, as have the large two shell dishes and the bowls of the spoons. The stand sits on four handsome ball feet.
The underside of the sugar and creamer are where the marks can be found for the top silversmith, James Dixon and Sons, together with the Patent Number.
Excellent condition and larger than most, measuring 18" x 9 1/2" x 9" tall to top of handle.
