This very fine example most likely originates from Malta or Italy, where this fine work was popular and dates to circa 1930.

It is made in the form of a large double winged butterfly, which is hand made in fine silver wire, which has been shaped and soldered into numerous designs and patterns to form this beautiful brooch.

The butterfly brooch has a two tone finish where some elements have been gilded, which contrasts nicely with the silver.

The brooch is marked 800 silver with a maker's mark G E.

This quality piece of antique jewellery has a hinged pin with an unusual safety catch fitted.
