The tin foil background on these rare collectible vanities makes them suitable tin (10th) anniversary gifts. Rare Stratton lipstick Stratton ship themed compact & lipstick mirror. This is the most wonderful & highly collectible unused Stratton "Scone" powder compact showing R M M V Winchester Castle in immaculate detail. The lid is flawless. Vintage Stratton ship compacts are sought-after & this one is in the finest condition. The background appears to be foil and set atop this is the most wonderful enamel scene showing this majestic ship moving through the water. The whole compact is in the finest condition with the original box, pouch, sifter & signed puff. The mirror is excellent & gives a perfect reflection. The bezel is signed "STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND". The original mirror sticker in place detailing how the self-opening lid can be activated. This works perfectly every time.The inner lid is signed "Stratton". The base is decorated with a fine spiral. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. An unused collector's piece. This vintage compact measures almost 3" & weighs 94.1 grams.
Together with the compact is a very rare Stratton Lipstick Mirror again with a flawless scene of R M M V Winchester Castle - a matching pair - compact & lipstick mirror which is so rare to find. The lipstick is signed 'Stratton MADE IN ENGLAND PRO. PAT. NO. 91'. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror is excellent & shows a perfect reflection. This beautifully design vanity is so hard to find & it is in excellent condition. The whole item having a glorious deep gold patina.
This Stratton Lipstick Mirror measures just over 4 1/2" long & weighs 40.4 grams.
The Union-Castle Company named most of their ships with the suffix "Castle" in their names. They were well known for the lavender-hulled liners with red funnels topped in black & very beautiful they look too on Stratton compacts! They ran on a rigid timetable between Southampton and Cape Town. Every Thursday at 4pm a Union-Castle Royal Mail Ship would leave Southampton bound for Cape Town. At the same time a Union-Castle Royal Mail Ship would leave Cape Town bound for Southampton. Free lavishly illustrated history of this piece included.
