Pair of Art Nouveau S/Plated Chambersticks
We are pleased to offer for sale this pair of Art Nouveau Silver Plated Chambersticks and Snuffers in Sheffield Plate, by the well known Sheffield makers James Dixon & Sons.
James Dixon & Sons of Cornish Place, Sheffield were in operation from 1806-1992. the trumpet and banner mark, as shown in the last photograph, was granted in 1879 and serves to distinguish this maker from the other Sheffield maker who uses JD & S - James Deakin.
The quality of the silver plate of these Chambersticks is excellent with virtually no wear. The Art Nouveau sweeping handle, with harebell decoration, is attached to a ring, on which the snuffer hooks, which has three supports with foliate decoration, terminating in a fleur de lys.
