Elizabethan Childs Oak Boarded Chest Late 16th C Country oak coffer %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A very fine example of a child’s boarded chest dating to the late 16th century. The chest is in fabulous condition with lovely colour and patination. The colour is a lovely nutty brown - the very best for early oak. The chest stands just over twenty eight inches wide and eleven inches deep suggesting it was a child’s chest. The chest is oak through out and retains the original hinges. The trapezium shaped lockplate is a nice feature although the lock has long since been removed. The chest is in very good condition throughout, free from worm or any significant damage. The proportions are truly delightful. The construction is primitive as would be expected in a boarded chest of the period. The oak boards are approximately one inch thick.

A truly marvellous oak child’s boarded chest of the late 16th century.
