A pair of decorative vintage early 1950s foo dogs, which originated in China and are actually stone lions or “shisi” Originally used as sentries for guarding palaces and temples. Foo dogs in pairs are symbolic as protective figures. Placement according to feng shui the female sits to the left with the male to the right. The female or yin with the pup under the foot represents a nurturing spirit and protects inhabitants, the male or yang with the ball under his foot represents the world and protector of the structure. Popular in the 40s and 50s with U.S interior designers for the Hollywood scene. In excellent condition standing at 25cm And base off 8x6cm
