Antique Chinese lacquer and mother of pearl food box, which would make a perfect box for storing/displaying antique jewellery.

The black lacquer lid and sides to the base are covered in mother of pearl inlay depicting Chinese figures in a landscape of trees and a lake with a jetty. All the inlay is present.

The interior contains 9 loose red lacquer trays, which fit neatly together. These would originally have contained ritual food, but today can be used for storing antique jewellery, or buttons and odds and ends.

There is an old repair to the front side of the lid which has been successful as all is solid.

The base stands on 4 low bun feet.

Dimensions: 32 cm square x 7.5 cm high (12 1/2" x 3")

Weight: 2.06 kg (quite heavy)

Overall an impressive box in good condition and with plenty of table-top appeal.
