This is an antique Indian Nagina sandalwood-lined carved ebony stationary box of elongated octagonal form in excellent original condition.

Dating from the mid 19th Century this box originates from the northern province of Uttar Pradesh in India. The box is made from ebony which has been exquisitely carved on the top and all four sides with geometric and floral patterns by Muslim craftsmen.

There is a brass escutcheon, brass lock and the lid opens on two brass stop hinges.
