An original poster for the French motorcycle manufacturer Favor from 1937. Measuring 60 by just under 40 cm this was originally designed to be hung and accordingly has a japanned metal stiffening strip top and bottom with suspension loop to the upper. In extremely goof if not unused condition it does however have a couple of small 'nicks' to the right border with what look suspiciously like a small rodent's teeth marks! Has been rolled for many years and so will need flattening before display and (perhaps if its upper and lower metal strips were carefully removed) could frame very well.
Favor was established as a manufacturer of bicycles in 1898 by Guillaume Étienne, with a factory built in Clermont-Ferrand some time later. In 1919 he was joined by his brothers Joseph and René, and their first motorcycle, a 125cc two-stroke, was built in 1921.
By the 1930s the company were manufacturing mid-range two-strokes as well as single cylinder four-stroke SV and OHV models with engines from JAP and Blackburne.
NB. An identical poster, having been framed, is for sale on another antique and collectors' web site for £700..ours is £120 including postage to any UK address.
