Watercolour by James Bateman RA
A James Bateman RA RWS RE (1893 - 1959) watercolour.
This watercolour picture is signed by James Bateman in the lower right corner and is dated 1922, the year after he finished training at the Slade School of Art. It is not titled but depicts a lady on wooden steps preaching to a crowd, with two nuns in their habits and a man with his head bowed. Some of the crown are listening to her and others are listening to another preacher. Obviously a serious picture as it is not highly coloured but atmospheric.

On the reverse is an old label from Boots picture framing department and a written precis of the life of James Bateman.
