Vintage Cased Paul Bunge Laboratory Balance Scales
This attractive balance scale is contained within its original glazed wooden case. There is a maker's plaque inside the case for Paul Bunge of Hambury, and a plaque on the outside of the case stating the scales to have been 'repaired and adjusted' by Stanton Instruments Ltd. The case looks to be made of oak and has a nice angled shape with a what we believe to be a marble or slate base supported on brass feet. We believe the scales to be complete, but we have not tested them so do not know if they are in working order. There are no weights present. We would estimate it to date from the early twentieth century.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good display condition with some wear consistent with age and use. We have not tested them so do not know if they are in working order. They look to need cleaning and servicing, and the adjusting knob at the front slips. There are no weights present. The scales have some discolouration and some slight surface corrosion in places. The case has some scuffing and wear to the woodwork. The scales and case are overall a little grubby and would benefit from a careful clean and polish.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Case - 43cm high, 45.5cm wide (not including handle), 27cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
