Victorian Fruitwood Writing Slope Box
This lovely large antique writing slope or box dates from the mid-nineteenth century. It is constructed from some type of solid fruitwood. It has a sloping hinged top which opens to reveal an open interior with some later pigeon holes at the back. It is supported on bracket feet.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. Both the sloping top and the box itself are a little warped meaning that the top does not quite sit flush with the base. There is some movement in the hinges. We believe the pigeon holes inside to be a later addition. There is some wood shrinkage splitting to the base, and some signs of restoration and repair. No key is present for the lock.
