This is an antique ladies correspondence box. An Irish, walnut and brass writing slope case, dating to the William IV, circa 1833. A desirable, quality example with fine hidden storage and a beautifully appointed interior.
Crafted from select walnut, offering fine grain interest and warm caramel hues
Casework skilfully edged in brass for a tactile, attractive contrast in fine taste
Personalised brass plaque to the lid, as gifted to a Miss J.A. Railey in September 1833
Also engraved with Austin, Maker - likely George Austin of Dublin, a 19th century writing slope specialist
Opens to reveal a beautifully appointed interior, ideal for writing and correspondence
Beautifully aged, tooled and embossed bottle green skivers, arranged in two folding sections
Document storage compartments situated beneath each lift-up writing surface
A delightful trio of hidden drawers reside behind the removable fascia panel
Rear section hosts a pen tray and a pair of glass ink wells, adding charm and function
Case held securely with a fine Bramah lock, engraved with the WR cypher for William IV
