Offered for sale are a pair of "The Chaucer Hounds" figures. Part of the collection of Rye Pottery's hand-painted figures based on the pilgrims from Chaucer's renowned Canterbury Tales.
Each is modeled as a pair of hounds in action. These are simple pieces with a great sense of movement and wonderful little touches including the collars and even the paws.
The colour palette centers on Cobalt Blue decorated base on a white ground, with the figures in terracotta, earthy browns.
The driving design influences for this collection are Neville Coghill’s translation of Chaucer's original text and the few illustrations of the Pilgrims shown in the Ellesmere Manuscript.
