Roderic O'Conor was one of Ireland's foremost artists. He was born into a family of ancient Irish nobility, the O'Connors of Connacht, descendants of the last kings of Ireland.Although expected to oversee the family estate of 1800 acres, O'Conor rebelled and moved to Dublin to study art.Inspired by the Impressionism and Post-Impressionism movement he took up permanent residence in France. He met Van Gogh and moved to Brittany in 1892, forming a close relationship with Gauguin in Pont-Aven. When the Pont-Aven group split up he returned to Paris and took a studio in Montparnasse.
