Ringtons Tea Caddy, NE Industries Ex, Maling, 1929 George V 1920s Ceramic %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a fine large George V Ceramic Ringtons Tea Caddy from the 1920s. The caddy is hexagonal and decorated around the body with panels depicting Northumbrian castles. The caddy was produced for sale at the North-East Coast Industries Exhibition held in Newcastle-on-Tyne in 1929 and an image of the exhibition grounds is on the lid of the caddy. The underside of the base has an image of the Ringtons Tea building.

The caddy was made for Ringtons by Maling Ware and dates to 1929, the year of the exhibition. Maling Pottery was founded in Sunderland in 1762 and then moved to Newcastle in 1817 under the direction of Robert Maling. They were a hugely successful company who pioneered the mass production of domestic pottery and are particularly associated with Keiller Marmalade Jars and Ringtons Tea Caddys. The factory closed in 1963.

Condition is extremely good with no chips or cracks and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The caddy is of a substantial size standing 12.5cm / 4.9ins high and measuring 16.2cm / 6.4ins wide. It weighs in at 779g / 27.5oz.

The underside of the lid is stamped North-East Coast Industries Exhibition Newcastle-on-Tyne 1929 with the Newcastle coat of arms in the centre. The underside of the base is stamped Maling Ware England below the image of the Ringtons Tea Building.
