Regency Inlaid Mahogany Wheel Barometer

This is a fine Regency period wheel barometer made by Charles Tarelli of Banbury dated circa 1810 which is in excellent original condition and in perfect working order.
This is an instrument of superior quality having an architectural pediment above a decorative inlaid band. The mahogany veneers used are of very good colour and grain with a triple band of stringing around the edges and the same stringing on the front of the thermometer cabinet. It is horizontally veneered at the side and is has floral inlaid panels and a silvered hygrometer under the pediment which interestingly signed by Charles Tagliabue of Holborn (1810-30) who was working at this time and no doubt supplied the very small hygrometer for this instrument. Holborn was the centre for barometer manufacture , with a plethora of immigrant Italian workers who no doubt supplied parts to other makers , particularly those in the provinces.
The engraving on the 10 inch dial and thermometer scale are of the highest quality , being well detailed and having certain areas given a high shine.
The dials have deliberately been left in the condition as the instrument was aquired but they can be resilvered at no additional charge if the buyer wishes.
This is quite early for a wheel barometer and it has the excellent proportions of of instruments made at this time , something which the later barometers cannot match.
The condition throughout is excellent and will delight the most discerning client. The images give a reasonable depiction of the instrument but in the flesh the quality and finish are more apparent and I suggest that any interested parties view the item as they will certainly not be disappointed.
The barometer is 39 long inches long and 11 1/4 at its widest point
If the asking price is paid in full I will deliver and set up the barometer free of charge in England , Wales and the Scottish lowlands.
If a lesser offer is accepted it will be considered a trade sale with the item being sold as described and shipping the responsibility of the buyer.
I will ship this instrument worldwide but I will have to empty the tube and retain the mercury although re filling the tube is a very straightforward process.
Collection is also available.
Guesstimate shipping rates are as follows
Europe £45
USA £70
Asia and Australia £140
