Pr.French 19 C.Brass/Copper Candlesticks


We are offering for sale a lovely pair of 19th Century French Aesthetic Movement brass and copper candlesticks which have been cast in exquisite detail.
The socle is brass, with an inset copper rim, decorated with fleur de lys. The upper part of the socle is copper and is decorated with nude figures, masks and sunflowers, interspersed with foliage and birds.
Above this, the next brass section has three nude figures with an owl, a cockerel and one carrying a scythe, between which are three rams head masks. Above the plain brass drip pan, the candle sconce is decorated with more fleur de lys.
The base bears an impressed 0 and a lozenge shape, which we have been unable to identify and A PARIS, so these candlesticks were obviously made by one of the great French foundries of the time.
