Portrait Pastel - by Eden Upton Eddis
A beautiful and delicately drawn 19th Century pastel and chalk portrait of Lady Isabella Grace Maude and her sister Lady Clementine Maude.
Signed by the Victorian Portrait Painter Eden Upton Eddis and dated 1851.

On Paper mounted on Linen.
This Pastel has been professionally restored to remove stain marks
It has been re mounted, and finished with a simple cream washed frame, and has a perspex window cut into the back board to reveal the inscription.
Dimensions: 30 inches high, 26 inches wide
Background:
Ladies Isabella and Clementine Maude were the daughters of Clementina Viscountess Hawarden 1823 - 65) who was a noted pioneering photographer in the mid 19thC. A collection of her photographs of the girls taken when a little older between 1859 and 1864 is held by the V&A Museum London
Eden Upton Eddis (1812 - 1901) Portrait Painter.
Enrolled at the Royal Academy schools in 1828, and he won a silver medal in 1831. From the age of twenty-five until he was nearly seventy his work was regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy. Eddis specialised in portraiture and had an affinity for delicately detailed images of children. Among his eminent sitters were the historian Lord Macaulay, John Bird Sumner the Archbishop of Canterbury, the essayist and fashionable cleric Sydney Smith and thesaurus compiler Peter Roget
