Early 20th.c. carved oak Monk’s bench or hall seat c.1920. Typical of the form, the backrest folds down and slides forward to make a table top. Panelled backrest with particularly good carved arch and column detail. Moulded arms on good turned supports front and rear. Over a lift up seat with useful storage below for boots and shoes etc. The front of the base features a repeat of the carving from the backrest with an additional carved frieze above and below. Oak sides, rear and floorboards. Raised on turned bun feet. Old wear to the polish on the seat, otherwise very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
