Longcase Grandfather Clock Preece Bristol Moon
A late Georgian moon phase mahogany longcase clock. A high quality case with an arched pediment with wavy edging surmounted by 3 brass finials. Corinthium brass capped twisted hood columns and trunk sides. Choice flame mahogany with chequered banded inlay. An arched painted dial with floral/fruit corners with the original gold leaf. Lunar moon phases to the arch with a sailing frigate. Date and seconds indicators. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.
William Preece of Bristol was born in Hereford in 1783 and moved to Bristol and worked at Redcliffe Hill from 1804-1809. He lived in Twinnell Road until around 1851.
