Large Georgian Mahogany Linen Press Carved Eagle
This superb antique linen press is of large country house proportions, and is over eight feet tall. It is of lovely quality and is constructed primarily from solid mahogany. We would estimate it to date from the early nineteenth century. We believe it to be of English origins, but it is in the American or Empire style. The linen press consists of a lower chest section with three long drawers and an upper cupboard with two doors, which open to reveal five original linen slides. The piece has a decorative top cornice with a central carved eagle finial, which looks to be original. The drawers retain what we believe to be original brass handles, and the top cupboard section retains its lock and a working key. The drawers retain their locks, but please note that no key is present.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scratching, scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected . There are some marks and the piece is overall a little faded. There are some signs of restoration and repair, including to the eagle which has been broken and repaired at some point. There are some signs of woodworm in places - this is not active but has been retreated as a precaution.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 269cm high, 143cm wide, 63cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
