Italian Mahogany Wardrobe. 19th Century.
Description: Of exceptional Neapolitan manufacture, this elegant antique wardrobe in Smith has been created with a mahogany feather door inlaid with maple
In the upper part there is a pediment with a baroque inlay depicting two animal figures. The hat has an arched carving also inlaid supported by two finely carved pilasters with Corinthian capitals, the mirror is original of the time
Below there are two drawers also inlaid with figures of warriors in combat
George Smith: Owner of a large cabinet-making workshop in London and active between 1804 and 1828, famous for having published in 1808 an etching album entitled "A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture", some scholars advanced the hypothesis that the Neapolitan “Smith” furniture was inspired by George Smith's designs.
Measurements: 125x60 H 225cm.
