Grainger Porcelain Tea Cup & Saucer Gadrooned Rim


Very pretty Grainger cup and saucer, c.1825, with gadrooned rim and spurred loop handle. Decorated with pale and dark blue lozenges suspended amongst very ornate gilded decoration with a small blue dotted band under the gilded rim, a blue and gold band running inside the rim and a blue and gold stylised star in the centre/base. Gilded pattern number to the saucer 1566. Similar cups are illustrated in Berthoud's Compendium Of British Cups, plates 731 and 732.
The cup measures 5.5cm (2 1/8") high, 9.2cm (3 5/8") rim to rim and 11.5cm (4 1/2") rim to handle. The saucer measures 14.5cm (5 5/8") wide and 2.5cm (1") high. Condition is very good with no damage or restoration and very little surface wear, just a little wear to the high points of the rim of the cup. We are now taking a few days off for Christmas, back on the 5th of January. Wishing all our customers a very Happy Christmas!!
