Georgian Silver Vinaigrette circa 1836 Silver Georgian Vinaigrette %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A heavy, excellent quality, Georgian sterling silver vinaigrette with a gilt internal. Assayed in Birmingham in 1836 with the maker identified as William Pugh. This box may have started life as a snuff, as the grille is a later assay for 1847 and Hilliard and Thomason. There is nothing to suggest it was anything but a one maker piece, it is only the two sets of assay marks that throw up this little bit of intrigue. However this final form came about it is still a fine vinaigrette, a fabulous box with an equally fine grille.

The condition is very good, the sponge section of the box has evidence of use and wear (shown in images) the inside visible is immaculate, including the gilt overlay to the lid. The chased and pierced grille is in wonderful condition. The closure of the box couldn't be better a tight seal all around and a solid hinge.

Size: 60mm long 32mm wide and 18mm deep. Weight 74 gms

It has an original engraved name in the cartouche M.A.TEAGUE.
