A good full size croquet set, the 4 mallets stamped Gamages, for the makers A.W. Gamage Ltd, London. The set includes 4 wooden balls, sturdy iron hoops, post and small mallet. The unusual pine box with iron handles is designed to hold the mallets and all the accoutrements in a tidy fashion. Wings at the back fold out to create space behind the box, possibly to minimise any storage/damp problems. It is a quality item to grace the finest of country houses, used but in excellent condition, and dating from the 1st quarter of the 20th century.
