F. Pearson Watercolour Highland Stream c.1900

We are offering this finely executed watercolour in subtle tones by the artist F. Pearson, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner, and entitled it verso in pencil, as shown, 'A Highland stream, Scotland'. The painting depicts a stream or burn descending from the mountains and becoming a relatively narrow waterfall over some high rocks. Highland burns can become raging torrents when swollen by heavy rain or meltikng snow. There are some hardy sheep grazing on both banks of the stream.
Although we found 13 auctions listings for the artist, who signs his watercolours, either F. Pearson or Fred Pearson, we can find no biographical information for him, as he obviously didn't exhibit at major exhibitions and, therefore, are not in our reference books. Some of his watercolours are of Scottish scenes and some ruiral landscapes, but we do not think he was Scottish. Unfortunately, as there are so many people with the surname Pearson, and either Fred, Frederick or Alfred, research in Cnesus records would be almost impossible.
The painting has been newly doublte mounted in two-tone acid-free mountboard to complement and is newly framed in a 1 1/8" bronzed gilt frame. It will be supplied with new brass hangers, new brass picture wire and will be ready to hang.
Image size: 19 1/8 x 11 3/8 inches - 48.55cm x 28.8cm
Frame size: 27 1`/4 x 19 1/4 inches - 69.2cm x 48.85cm
Medium: Watercolours on paper
Condition: Very good. There is no foxing and the colours are bright and true. The mounts and frame are new.
