British Printed St George's Cross Flag

The printed St George flag in soft thin cotton is in fair condition with a lovely consistent fade across the fabric, giving it a most desirable appearance. There is some fraying to some edges and some water marks and stains, with one corner tied, these anomalies making for a piece telling its own story.
The red cross appeared as an emblem of England during the Middle Ages and the Crusades and is one of the earliest known emblems representing England. It also represents the official arms of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, and it achieved status as the national flag of England during the sixteenth century. Saint George became the patron saint of England in the thirteenth century, and the legend of Saint George slaying a dragon dates from the twelfth century.
A symbolic textile and a decorative antique flag.
