Cooper plate Engraved Bookplate of John Royce of London who founded Abingdon School 1563. The Free Grammer school was created by John Royce in 1563, for the Education of Three Score and Thirteen Boys situated in Birchin Lane, London. The School buildings were burnt down and the site is now part of London Assurance Co., However, there are still today 10 Scholarships at Pemembrook College, Oxford, connected with the School.
