Black Forest Bear Bench
Absolutely fabulous late Victorian Black Forest Bear Bench .
Unusual design as the back rest has two bears facing each other .
This bench with it's two large bears holding the seating area is one of the best I’ve seen.
Great facial expressions on both bears . Rare to find one in such great condition . Two charming bears have the carved bench in their paws. They are exceptionally carved and have warm facial expressions. Each bear has his own characteristics. The bench itself exhibits Black Forest design details involving leaves and branches, all beautifully carved with much attention to detail. The bench is in wonderful antique condition with the lovely patina
Black Forest Carving was also known as carving de forest noir, which reflects designs featuring depictions of forests (primarily of bears), trees, branches, and leaves. Black forest antique furniture came to be a worldwide form of modern wood carving, as it was featured most prominently at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851 and the Exhibition Universelle in Paris in 1900.
