Avery Style Gilt Brass 'Louise' Needle Case
An Avery style gilt brass needle packet case in excellent condition. The needle case is named ‘Louise’ who was Queen Victoria’s fourth daughter, born in 1848. The needle case was likely made to commemorate her marriage to the future Duke of Argyll the decoration of the English Tudor Rose and the Scottish Thistle representing their nationalities. Their marriage in 1871 would date the needle case to shortly after - likely 1873. The envelope design of the needle case opens to reveal four skep decorated compartments numbered 6, 7, 8, and 9. The needle case measures 9.2 x 4.7cm when closed.
